SELANGOR - BATANGSI SEMENYIH - 2021 FIRST CAMPING

2021 FIRST CAMPING ACTIVITY
BATANGSI, SEMENYIH

Cheers to 2021! The Ninjas decided to have our first camping trip! We were excited about this trip mainly for our chance to experiment with the new camping gears that we just received a few days prior. With the Malaysian Government announcing CMCO 2.0, we have decided to have our 2021 adventure somewhere nearby Klang Valley in case the government decides to announce another lockdown during our time at the campsite that would prevent us to return immediately. That said, we decided to go to Kem Anugerah Alam Batangsi, Semeniyh.

Be it a one-day trip or an overnight one, we will always make it a point to prepare and double-check our items the night before departure. IMPORTANT NOTE: always give yourself enough rest and recharge during Day 0 to make sure you are ready for the upcoming trip especially when the trip requires you to have a long set-up and a long-distance 4x4 off road travel.

DAY 1

For us to reach the campsite by 10.30am, we had to wake up at 8am and picked up our members to have breakfast and depart latest by 9am. This will give us more time to relax and have fun by chilling at the river after our campsite set-up. Kem Anugerah Alam Batangsi is 54km away with a combination of 48km highway road + 6km off-road along the Jalan Sungai Lalang (without mobile coverage), this requires 1hr 12mins travel time to reach to the main entrance.

To give you a picturesque description, when you enter the 6km of not so well maintained off-road (due to the ATV activities and 4x4 that can drive-in), you will see a freshwater Fishing Pond - Seri Bayu Batangsi Semenyih, and some privately-owned plantations / estates along the way until you reach a 3-way junction. Over here, you will need to follow the right side of the road (it is slightly downhill and will lead to an uphill again while others will lead you to other privately owned properties / dead ends). Finally, we reached the parking area of the campsite entrance as per our expected arrival time. The parking is along the road/river, and it could hold over 15 vehicles.

At the entrance, you will see an Information Counter/Counter Pertanyaan where you will register yourself (pandemic SOP) and then proceed to meet the landowner. There is a whiteboard inside with all the pre-booking names with camping ground unit numbers allocated. Next to the Information Counter/Counter Pertanyaan is the main entrance of Stage 1's camping ground.

We were blessed with a friendly landowner during our stay, he even offered us their 4x4 service to just bring us up to the Geology 1 Campsite after checking in on our items & equipment. Even though the distance is around 300 - 450 meters long of nature hiking trail, the owner informed us that the road is quite slippery due to the continuous heavy rain before our camping date which would have made a hike slightly difficult.

Side note: The 4x4 road is bumpy and was a '4x4 roller coaster' experience. Hence, we did not manage to get any pictures during the ride.

After 10 - 15 mins 4x4's roller-coaster ride, we finally reached our campsite - "Geology 1" by 11am. To our dismay, the best spots were taken by two families who reached much earlier, perhaps in the morning, so we decided to take the spot which had some trees that will be convenient for us to tie up our flysheet for our kitchen & rest area.

Proper Steps To Set-up
- Set-up Ground Sheet + Tent : Choose a place that is flat and has fewer rocky surfaces
- Set-up Ground Sheet + Flysheet : Choose a place with enough trees to tie up with a pole stick
- Tent : Adjust properly according to the wind direction and set up the sleeping mattress + sleeping bag
- Kitchen & Rest Area : Set-up a table & a chair, kitchen & resting area.

Believe it or not, this simple set-up took us over 45 minutes to finish. The timing, however, was just nice for us to start preparing our lunch before relaxing by the river.

Our lunch menu consisted of simple fried rice + chicken sausage & ham lunch, a much-needed fuel after a long journey. We chilled by the river before our 4pm campfire preparation. Our instincts were right to set up the flysheet earlier because we noticed the weather was turning grey and it started to rain around 3pm afternoon. The rain lasted until the morning after at around 11am. Even though the rain was not too heavy, but it has altered our plans and we did not have the chance to  do stargazing at midnight. We decided to rest earlier for Day 1 and standby during midnight in case we needed to move our camp to higher ground. (Glad that no flood happened, also we checked with the landowner and he reassured us that it is a safe place.)

DAY 2

The rain lasted until 11am and only stopped for a short while when we were packing our stuff. The rain did not stop us from enjoying our breakfast with the cold air morning. The only cons are that our equipments were still wet even after we cleaned it up. Although the rain went on for hours, we were relieved that the campsite did not have any flash flood as our campsite is considered a high-level campsite, this was told to us by the landowner. Below shows how the river looks like after and during a rain - Sungai Teh Tarik.

Side note: We do not encourage people to have fun in the river during and right after rain because the current is strong and the water will have grains of sand and mud flowing down from the upper stream.

Before departing, we had roti canai + hardboiled egg + Chinese style peanut and warm coffee for breakfast. After breakfast, we cleaned up our campsite and waited for our booked 4x4 to pick us up at 2pm (they are punctual!). On our way back, the muddy trail has gotten worse compared to the day before due to the rain and we were stuck for about an hour. The driver and the team had us transferred to another 4x4 vehicle to get us back to the entrance.

Side note: Did not managed to take any photos on our way back because the road is also very bumpy.

About Kem Anugerah Alam Batangsi Semenyih :

Kem Anugerah Alam Batangsi Semenyih is a private owned property with two levels of riverside camping grounds located at Batangsi River, Semenyih. The landowner limits the number of bookings to comply with the pandemic's SOP set by the government and local authorities. Pre-booking is required because it is always fully booked since domestic travel is being promoted by Malaysia Government and overseas travel is restricted.

Stage 1 / Level 1 Camping Ground : Suitable for family and casual campers who do not wish to carry their stuff too far from the parking place. At this level, 4 units of pondok/huts are available for booking. Campers do not need to set up a flysheet and can have fewer worries during raining season. If you are the type who enjoys a more nature feel during camping trips filled with cool weather and river, you can consider Lot 1 - Lot 5 campsite with no pondok/huts which are available upon request. Perks of this stage is they have electricity provided here to light up the area during nighttime for safety reasons. Besides, this stage is quite easy to access by car.

Stage 2 / Level 2 Camping Ground : Suitable for experienced campers and campers who prefer camping in the wild with no electricity, piped water, or a proper toilet. Campers need to bring their groundsheet and flysheet to set up together with the tent. We recommend campers bring up to two ground & flysheets so you can set up both your tent and kitchen area. Besides, you can also bring drinking water along for a 2 Days 1 Night trip just in case the river water is not consumable specially during raining season as the river will be full of mud.
